Aggie’s Kitchen: A Year in Review – Celebrating 2016’s Culinary & Personal Milestones

There’s something uniquely magical about the quiet week nestled between Christmas and New Year’s Day. For me, it’s a treasured time for reflection, a chance to pause and appreciate the tapestry of experiences that have shaped the past twelve months. As a food blogger, this period holds a special significance. My blog, Aggie’s Kitchen, serves as a beautiful, date-stamped diary, a digital scrapbook of both personal milestones and the delicious recipes we’ve created together. While the internet’s evolution has naturally shifted the focus more towards food content over purely personal anecdotes, the essence of sharing and connecting remains at the heart of what I do. It’s a joy to look back and see how this platform has evolved, just as I have.

The year 2016 was undeniably a year of profound growth and memorable moments. It marked my 40th birthday, a significant milestone that brought with it a renewed sense of purpose. I embarked on a journey back to college, embracing the challenge of learning anew. Perhaps one of the most surprising and empowering achievements was embracing fitness, discovering an inner strength I never knew I possessed. Our family navigated the exciting transition of my oldest child starting middle school and bravely weathered the impact of a scary hurricane, emerging stronger on the other side. We celebrated unique moments, like my daughter’s appearance as a guest judge at a produce conference recipe contest, and watched our youngest transform from a baby into a vibrant three-year-old little person.

Stepping out of my comfort zone, I ventured into public speaking at a dietician/healthy blogger conference, an experience that, to my delight, I absolutely loved. Travel enriched our year, taking us to the picturesque landscapes of Vermont, the historic charm of Savannah, and the sunny shores of the Florida Panhandle. Cherished friendships were rekindled when my dear friend Kristen visited, leading to unforgettable adventures seeing Justin Bieber and Mickey Mouse. Speaking of Mickey, our family made numerous joyful trips to Disney. Amidst these adventures, I also made the thoughtful decision to withdraw from college, prioritizing other aspects of life. My husband and I celebrated 14 wonderful years of marriage, a testament to enduring love and partnership. We stood by family members through health challenges, witnessing their resilience. We immersed ourselves in the vibrant spectacle of an epic Indian wedding celebration. My daughter and I proudly volunteered for the 2016 presidential campaign, embracing civic engagement. Professionally and personally, 2016 was a period of rich experiences, constant learning, and meaningful development.
