Just a week ago, I had the incredible opportunity to immerse myself in the vibrant atmosphere of Walt Disney World, combining a cherished family getaway with the inspiring Food Blog Forum conference. It still feels surreal to reflect on those magical days spent surrounded by loved ones and a dynamic community of fellow food bloggers. This annual event holds a special place in my heart, especially when it takes place right in my own backyard, allowing my family to share in the joy and wonder. These precious opportunities to connect face-to-face with online friends, whose work and lives I’ve followed for years, are truly invaluable and enrich my journey as a content creator in countless ways. The blend of professional development and personal connection creates an experience unlike any other.
An Enchanting Setting: Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort
The conference found its home at the magnificent Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa, a venue that truly lives up to its name. From the moment you arrive, you’re enveloped in an aura of Victorian elegance and unparalleled luxury. Nestled gracefully on the serene waters of the Seven Seas Lagoon, the resort offers breathtaking views and an ambiance of sophisticated tranquility. Every detail, from the grand lobby to the lush gardens, is meticulously crafted, making it an utterly gorgeous backdrop for any event. Where else could you encounter Cinderella’s iconic glass carriage parked casually amidst sun-bathers, adding an unexpected touch of fairy-tale magic to a professional gathering? This unique blend of fantasy and reality perfectly set the stage for a memorable and inspiring conference experience.
Building Connections at the Food Blog Forum: A Unique Conference Experience
This marked my third consecutive year attending the Food Blog Forum (FBF), an event I eagerly anticipate on my annual calendar. Over the years, it has become a cornerstone for my personal and professional growth within the food blogging community. What sets FBF apart, and what I particularly cherish, is its intimate scale. With approximately 100 attendees, it fosters a nurturing environment for genuine connections, a stark contrast to larger, more overwhelming conferences. This smaller setting encourages deeper conversations, allowing for more meaningful interactions and a stronger sense of camaraderie among participants. While my ambitious goal this year was to connect with absolutely everyone, the reality of finally having dedicated time with long-time blogging friends, whom I rarely see in person, often takes delightful precedence. It’s a joyful challenge to balance catching up with cherished colleagues and forging new relationships, but it speaks to the rich tapestry of friendships woven through years of shared online passion.
The Power of Real-Life Connections: Friendship in the Blogging World
One of the true highlights of any Food Blog Forum is the opportunity to deepen existing friendships and forge new ones. Speaking of friends, meeting Liz in person was an absolute delight and a true revelation. I frequently reference her on my blog, not just because I’m a regular follower of her inspiring culinary creations, but because her approach to cooking perfectly mirrors my own: healthy, simple, yet bursting with incredible flavor. Her focus on everyday family recipes resonates deeply with my philosophy in the kitchen. Liz has quickly become one of my favorite people; her down-to-earth, positive personality is like a beacon of sunshine, making every moment spent with her truly uplifting. We discovered we have so much in common, from our shared passion for food blogging to navigating similar personal milestones like pregnancy. Connecting with someone who understands the nuances of this online world, while also sharing life’s broader experiences, is incredibly validating and inspiring. She is, without a doubt, my kind of people, and I eagerly await our next opportunity to connect.
The collective energy and support from this community of women are boundless. It’s hard to convey how much I cherish these relationships. Some I’ve cultivated for years through countless exchanges on Twitter, Instagram, and our respective blogs, while others I had the pleasure of meeting for the very first time. There were also those familiar faces I’d seen at previous events, making each reunion feel like coming home. The beauty of the Food Blog Forum lies in its ability to bring together diverse voices and talents, all united by a shared love for food and storytelling. These connections go beyond professional networking; they form a robust support system, offering advice, encouragement, and understanding in an often solitary online world. Saying goodbye at the end of the conference was genuinely difficult, a testament to the strong bonds forged over just a few days of shared experiences and laughter.

Another truly special moment was finally getting to spend more quality time with Jenny, one of my very first blogging buddies from the early days of my online journey. It’s fascinating how friendships evolve and deepen over the years, even when distance keeps us apart. Jenny had recently welcomed a new baby boy, a wonderful addition to her family seven years after her last child. As my own children’s ages are similarly spaced, I was eager to pick her brain about navigating the joys and challenges of a new baby after such a gap. Our conversation quickly turned into a delightful and relatable exchange about the vastly changed world of baby gear and parenting trends from seven years ago. There’s a special kind of comfort and humor in sharing these unique experiences with someone who truly understands, and our laughter echoed the mutual understanding of this new chapter in motherhood. These personal connections are what truly make the Food Blog Forum invaluable, allowing us to support each other not just as bloggers, but as individuals navigating life’s many adventures.
Key Takeaways from Inspiring Sessions
Beyond the vibrant socializing and invaluable networking, the Food Blog Forum delivered an exceptional lineup of educational sessions. Led by highly respected bloggers, talented photographers, and seasoned industry experts, these talks were packed with insightful knowledge and practical advice designed to elevate our craft. From discussions on SEO strategies and social media mastery to advanced photography techniques and content monetization, each speaker offered unique perspectives. While Nemo, adorably making a cameo in one of the photos, wasn’t an official speaker, his charming presence certainly added to the conference’s cheerful atmosphere. These sessions provided not just inspiration, but tangible tools and strategies that attendees could immediately apply to their blogs and businesses, making the learning aspect as rich and rewarding as the personal connections.
Embracing Innovation with Todd and Diane
Todd and Diane of White on Rice Couple (top left) presented a particularly resonant session on the critical balance of embracing technology while nurturing creativity – a challenge I often grapple with as a self-professed “tech-phobe” striving to stay current. Their wisdom offered a profound insight: when you find yourself in a creative rut with your blog, the most effective solution is to step outside your usual patterns and seek inspiration elsewhere. Break away from your routine, explore new avenues, and deliberately change your perspective. Having been blogging for nearly five years, I intimately understand that every job or hobby has its periods of ebb and flow, days or even months when motivation wanes. Their advice reinforced my recent efforts to shake up my daily routine – whether it’s exploring a new neighborhood for grocery shopping inspiration, trying a novel cuisine at a local restaurant, or even playfully considering learning a new instrument (a joke, of course!). Their presentation was a powerful reminder of the importance of continuous evolution and fresh outlooks. As always, I walked away from their session feeling incredibly inspired by the genuine warmth and boundless creativity this remarkable couple exudes.
Defining Success with The Steamy Kitchen Family
The Steamy Kitchen family (top right), true to their reputation, shared a wealth of invaluable information. Their session focused on “defining your success,” a topic that couldn’t have come at a more opportune moment in my life. I absorbed so much from their insightful sharing, finding profound reinforcement for principles I already believed in and knew needed to remain at the forefront of both my personal life and professional endeavors. Two core messages resonated deeply: first, the transformative power of surrounding yourself with people you aspire to be like, and second, the enduring wisdom of working smarter, not harder. These aren’t just clichés; they are fundamental truths that, when applied, can dramatically reshape one’s trajectory. Their pragmatic advice served as a powerful reminder to be intentional about the company I keep and the strategies I employ, driving home the importance of both community and efficiency in achieving meaningful goals. YES, indeed!
(We were also fortunate to hear from other distinguished speakers, whose expertise further enriched the conference program. Middle Left: Elise, Babette, and Erik shared their insights. Bottom Left: Lindsay, David, Julie, and Jeff also contributed their valuable perspectives, making for a truly diverse and comprehensive learning experience.)
A Heartfelt Thank You and Lasting Impressions
My deepest gratitude goes out to Disney for providing such a spectacular and enchanting setting, and to all the dedicated organizers of the Food Blog Forum: Jaden and Scott, Diane and Todd, Julie, and Lindsay. Your tireless efforts once again culminated in an outstanding conference experience that surpassed all expectations. It is an immense joy and privilege to step away from our screens and connect in person with the incredible individuals who share this vast online space. The energy, insights, and camaraderie experienced during FBF are truly invigorating, leaving every attendee feeling energized, inspired, and profoundly grateful to be a part of such a supportive and dynamic community. The lessons learned, the friendships strengthened, and the new perspectives gained will continue to fuel my passion for content creation long after the conference ends.
Beyond the professional enrichment, the ability to weave this enriching experience into a memorable family vacation, sharing moments of magic and discovery with my loved ones at Walt Disney World, is absolutely priceless. This unique synergy of professional growth and cherished family time truly elevates the entire experience, making it an annual highlight that feeds both my passion and my soul.
